For the next part of the Alumni Network Commandments, we go into the heart of your community. How do you create that all-important link between members? How to use your platform to maximize engagement?
Here are the next 3!
- Sharing will be the heart of your mission
- You will indulge you members as well as your family
- You will guide your members throughout their whole career
Engage your members within a trusted space
Your network is, in essence, a private social network. It is therefore important to make this digital space a sanctuary. A space where unwanted solicitations and spam are non-existent! To do this, it is up to you to set the rules and ensure quality moderation. You will then offer a very qualitative and serene space to which your alumni and students will be delighted to connect.
Part two: maximise the engagement of your members. Now that they are in a trusted space, you must structure it to facilitate exchanges and interactions within the platform. This means organising different spaces according to interests, geographical locations, promotions... The possibilities are endless and above all depend on your network's expectations. It's up to you!
Get your members on board as soon as they arrive and take the time to engage them
Onboarding, or onboarding as you like, is a crucial moment for the engagement of your members. In the process, the alumni has already made the effort to connect to the platform. They need to be rewarded with a VIP welcome on the steps of Cannes!
First of all, make them understand how your platform works. Where will they find the essential information: the directory to find their classmates, the groups that might interest them, the calendar of events, the career space if they want to recruit or change jobs... Be exhaustive to make sure that your student or alumni finds what they are looking for. And above all that they come back to connect and interact with other members.
Make the career the rallying point of your network
If there is one thing everyone is concerned about, it is professional careers. It is even a criterion of choice for students, who nowadays look closely at the placement rate of young graduates before selecting their training. It is therefore essential to highlight your career services, and in particular your career center (if you have one).
It is a best practice to integrate your students as soon as they arrive at your institution. Make your career center the number one internship and work placement search tool for them. You instil confidence by accompanying students in their search for an internship, and you create a habit.
It is also an opportunity to promote your graduates by allowing them to offer jobs and recruit in your school, to mobilize them for mentoring, or to accompany them in their career plan... Your community is a trusted network, and it is up to you to know how to strengthen it by engaging your members and encouraging exchanges between them!
